Issou Munakata
Born in Fukushima Prefecture in 1941, he began crafting small bonsai pots at 35 using a gas kiln and handmade pottery wheel. In 1995, he relocated to the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka to focus solely on pottery. Renowned for his exquisite glaze blending, with most pieces fired in a reduction atmosphere in an kerosene kiln. The pots are thin, making them easy to plant small bonsai and Kusamono (grass bonsai).
