Koso Heian 平安香艸

The seal “Koso Heian (平安香艸)” was used by Tatsuzo Kawai, the founder of Koso-en, on the pots he crafted himself. Around 1938 (Showa 13), a kiln was built within the grounds of Higashi Honganji Temple in Kyoto. He was also a member of Nento Kai, a prestigious group of highly skilled pot artists.

Some of the pots fired during that time still remain today.
